- Barney Alston BOATRIGHT, a son of Willie Corine Coleman and Frank Rhen Boatright, was born on 7 February 1919 in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, Georgia. He was named as a son, aged 1 year, in his parents' household in the 1920 Emanuel County census, as age 11 in the 1930 census, and as age 21 in the 1940 Emanuel County census. He also was named a surviving son in his father's 1952 obituary and in his mother's 1985 obituary. In addition, he was named as a surviving brother in Fred Cholan Boatright's 1982 obituary, in Frank Liburn Boatright's 1987 obituary, in Cecil Garland Boatright's 1988 obituary, in Tera Vanneel Boatright Johnson's 1994 obituary, and in Mildred Mozelle Boatright Hodge's 2000 obituary.
He graduated from Swainsboro High School in May 1938.
Barney married Margaret E. Buffinger on 10 July 1941 in Ridgeland, Jasper County, South Carolina. She was born on 23 May 1917 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, a daughter of Kathryn and Henry Buffinger.
Barney served in the Army during World War II. His enlistment papers provided the following information: Name: Barney A. Boatright; Birth Year: 1919; Nativity State: Georgia; Residence: Hamilton County, Ohio; Enlistment Date: 8 May 1943; Enlistment Place: Cincinnati, Ohio; Branch: No branch assignment; Grade: Private; Enlistment for the duration of the War; Component: Selectees (Enlisted Men); Source: Civil Life; Education: 1 year of college; Marital Status: Married. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on 18 May 1943 at Cincinnati, Ohio. His discharge papers stated that he had blue eyes, brown hair, was 5? 11? in height and weighed 185 pounds. His military occupational specialty was Supply NCO 821. The highest rank held was T-Sgt. He was sent overseas on 4 October 1943 and arrived back into the U.S. on 14 January 1946. Decorations and citations for service included Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, and Victory Medal of World War II. He was separated from service with an honorable discharge on 21 January 1946 at Separation Center Camp, Atterbury, Indiana.
He was recorded living in Cincinnati, Ohio by 1949 in the Williams' Cincinnati City Directory. He and Margaret were living at 4704 Barrow Avenue. He was a machinist for the Cincinnati MM Company.
He and Margaret had one daughter:
i. Sharon Gayle BOATRIGHT
Barney attended the University of Cincinnati for two years, electronics school for two years, and two years at Milacron Supervisor School. He had moved to 1754 Summit Hills Dr., Cincinnati by 1975.
He was an amateur trap shooter and tied for the 1970 Ohio State Championship.
Margaret died on 5 April 2008 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio.
Barney died on 6 October 2009, also in Cincinnati.
