    • Daniel Douglas BOATRIGHT (John3, Reubin2, Daniel1), the eleventh child of John Boatright and the first child of John and Nancy Deal Boatright, was born on 7 October 1878 in Emanuel County, Georgia. He was named as a son, aged 1 year, in the 1880 Emanuel County census in his parents' household. He also was listed as a surviving brother in the obituaries of: Nancy America Boatright, 1939; Rubin Boatright, 1947; Benjamin Boatright, 1951; Kate Boatright Griffith, 1952; Mittie Missouri Boatright Hill Meeker, 1956; Celia Boatright Findley, 1971; and Thomas Pelie Boatright Sr., 1974. In addition, he stated in a petition to the Emanuel County Court of Ordinary, in which he sought to act as an administrator to the estate of his father, that he was a son of John Boatright.

      Dan was married to Clara Bunn on 12 October 1899 in Emanuel County. Clara was born on 5 September 1879, a daughter of Vandelia Wilson and Wilson Bunn. As newlyweds, they were enumerated in the 1900 Emanuel County census as follows: Daniel Boatright, head of household, age 21, born November 1878, married 0 years, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, farmer, could read and write; and Clarrie, wife, age 20, born May 1880, married 0 years, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, could read and write. He was residing next to his older brother, John R.

      The 1910 census recorded the family as follows: Dan D. Boatright, age 31, married once, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, farmer, could read and write, owns farm free of mortgage; Clara, wife, age 40, mother of five children of whom all were living, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, farm laborer, could read and write; Byron, son, age 8, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, attended school; Ray, son, age 6, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, attended school; Royce, son, age 5, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Loretta, daughter, age 3, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; and Essie Mae, daughter, age 1, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia.

      Dan registered for the World War I draft on 12 September 1918 in Swainsboro, Emanuel County. His draft registration card provided the following information: Daniel Douglas Boatright; address: Rt 2, Graymont, Emanuel County, Georgia; age 40; born 7 October 1878; natural born citizen; occupation: farming, Rt. 2, Graymont; nearest relative: Mrs. Clara Boatright, wife, Rt. 2, Graymont; signed Daniel Douglas Boatright; physical description: medium height, medium build, brown eyes, dark hair.

      In the 1920 Emanuel County census, the family was listed as follows: Daniel Boatright, rents home, age 41, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, farmer; Clara, wife, age 40, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Byron, son, age 18, attends school, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, laborer on home farm; Ray, son, age 16, attends school, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Roy, son, age 15, attends school, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Loreta, daughter, age 13, attends school, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Essie Mae, daughter, age 10, attends school, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Jewel, daughter, age 8, attends school, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; and Woodrow, son, age 7, attends school, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia.

      Dan became a member of Hebron Primitive Baptist Church in Garfield and was received by "expression of grace" on 26 June 1909. He later was excluded from Hebron for joining the progressive Baptist. He later served on the Executive Committee for the Emanuel Missionary Baptist Association.

      He and Clara had the following children:

      Dan filed for "a discharge from all debts against him in bankruptcy" with the United States District Court, Western Division, Southern District of Georgia in Savannah on 25 April 1925. The hearing on his application was scheduled for 25 May 1925 and creditors were to appear and show cause why his application should not be granted.

      Clara died on 22 June 1931 in Emanuel County, and was buried in Antioch Church, Emanuel County.

      Dan married his second wife Ollie Patrick Canady in Emanuel County on 4 November 1933. She was born on 6 November 1892, daughter of Carrie and James Patrick. She was married previously to Daniel P. Cannady. Ollie died on 12 December 1934 in Emanuel County and was buried at Old Canoochee Church Cemetery next to her first husband. The tombstone was inscribed with the Cannady surname.

      After Ollie's death, Dan married Annie Sutton, daughter of Jane Brinson and Algerine Sutton, in Emanuel County on 1 December 1935. She had been married previously to George Richards. Annie was born on 6 April 1891 in Emanuel County. Annie, in addition to being step-mother to Byron, Dan's oldest son, became his sister-in-law when Annie's sister Kate Sutton married Byron. Byron, Kate, and Annie probably became well acquainted with each other when Byron was a boarder in the Sutton home. The family connections were to grow even closer when Kate's and Annie's brother, Claude E. Sutton, married Byron's sister, Essie Mae.

      Dan and Annie were recorded in the 1940 Emanuel County census living on a farm, in a rented house on which $7 monthly rental was paid, outside of Twin City. The information provided by the census included the following: Dan Boatright, answered census questions, head, age 61, married, completed seven grades of school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County on 1 April 1935, was at work the week of 24 March, worked 40 hours the week of 24 March, farmer, worked on own account, worked 52 weeks in 1939, had no wages in 1939, had other sources of income in 1939; and, Annie Boatright, wife, age 49, married, completed three grades of high school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County on 1 April 1935, engaged in housework, had no source of income in 1939.

      Annie died on 31 October 1967 in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, and was buried on 1 November 1967 in Antioch Church Cemetery, Emanuel County.

      Dan died on 6 March 1974 in Glenwood, Wheeler County, Georgia, and was buried on 9 March 1974 in Antioch Cemetery, Twin City, Emanuel County. His residence at the time of his death was Twin City.
