    • Claude Chandler MONDY, a son of Ethel Mae Boatright and John Calvin Mondy, was born in Emanuel County, Georgia, on 2 April 1921. He was named as a son, aged 10 years, in the 1930 Emanuel County census and as age 18 in the 1940 Emanuel County census. He also was named as a surviving son in his father's 1935 obituary and in his mother's 1947 obituary. In addition, he was named as a surviving brother in Dora Lucretia Mondy Gordon's 1980 obituary, Herries Aaron Mondy's 1986 obituary, and Otha Lamar Mondy's 2001 obituary. He also was named as a brother and heir in the will and obituary of his sister, Jerushie Arlinda Mondy Lietz.

      He lived in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, Georgia, in 1935, in Jacksonville, Florida, by 1945, and moved to Loveland, Ohio, in the early 1950s and was still living there in January 2001. He was listed in the Cincinnati Directory as being employed by the Wyoming Shoe Service.

      Claude was recorded in the 1945 Florida state census as living in precinct 12C of Jacksonville, Duval County. He resided at 1843 E. 25th Street with his mother, his sister Lucretia, and his sister Ethel Fay Hamilton and her children, Geneva and John W. According to the census, Claude was 24 years old, born in Georgia, had a grammar school education, and was in the U.S. Army.

      He enlisted in the Army during World War II. His Army enlistment records provide the following information: Claude C. Mondy; Birth Year: 1921; Nativity State: Georgia; Residence: Jefferson, Alabama; Enlistment Date: 30 November 1942; Enlistment Place: Fort McClellan, Alabama; Grade: Private; Education: Grammar school; Civil Occupation: Foreman, Sawmill or Shoe Repairman; Marital Status: Single without dependents; Height: 71 inches; Weight: 164 pounds.9

      He married Sofi Tiller in 1947 n Germany. She was born on 25 February 1925 in Hofleiten, Bayern, Germany.

      Soon after his wedding, Claude returned from Bremerhaven, Germany, in September 1947 aboard the Willard A. Holbrook. Its passenger list for U.S. citizens provided the following information about Claude: Name in Full: Claude Mondy; Age: 26 years, 5 months; Sex: Male; Marital Status: Married; Date and Place of Birth: 7 April 1921, Swainsboro, GA; Date of Last Departure from the United States: 28 September 1944; Address in United States: 632 C Avenue, Jacksonville, FL.

      Sofi arrived in New York from Frankfurt, Germany, by Pan American Airways on 25 September 1947. Her passenger card provided the following information: Name if Full: Sophie Mondy; Air Line: Pan American World Airways; Aircraft: NC 88861; Permanent Address: 25 East Church Street, Jacksonville, FL; Point of Embarkation: Frankfurt, Germany; Point of Disembarkation: New York LaGuardia; Age: 22; Sex: Female; Nationality: German; Passport No. A8297; Place and Date of Issue: Berlin, 4 June 1947; Valid till: 20 June 1948; Immigration Document: W 251353, 25 September 1947; Date of Birth: 25 February 1925; Place of Birth: Hofleiten; Occupation: Seamstress; Height: 5?3?; Marital Status: Married; Color of Hair: Brown; Color of Eyes: Brown; Able to read/write: yes; Language: German, English; Name and address of nearest relative in home country: M. Tiller, Thansau, Rosenheim; Purpose of going to country of disembarkation: join my husband [stricken through]; Length of intended stay: Permanent; Intended address in country of disembarkation: 25 East Church Street, Jacksonville, FL; Name and address of friend or relative to whom destined in that country: Mr. C.       Sofi died on 18 March 2005 in Loveland, Clermont County, Ohio. Sofi had made her will on 15 April 2003. In the will, she named Claude as her sole heir and Executor unless: "In the event my said beloved husband Claude Chandler Mondy shall predecease me, I give, devise and bequeath all of my property, real, personal and mixed, of every kind and description and wheresoever situate, to my children, Harld Mondy, Victor Mondy, Diane Smitson [sic], Nancy Mondy, and Steve Mondy, or their issue, share and share alike, absolutely and in fee simple." Also, in the event, that Claude had predeceased her, she named her daughter Nancy as her Executor.

      In addition to Sofi's will, the document "Surviving Spouse, Children, Next of Kin, Legatees and Devisees," filed in probate with her will on 6 July 2005 and signed by Claude, named Claude as her surviving spouse, and the children named above as sons or daughters with their addresses and birthdates. The following statement was also marked: "The surviving spouse is the natural or adoptive parent of all the decedent's children."

      Claude died in Loveland, Clermont County, on 19 May 2007. His will, signed on the same day as Sofi's, contained language identical to Sofi's and was witnessed by the same individuals. He also named Nancy as his Executor should Sofi predecease him and Nancy, in fact, served as Executor. The "Surviving Spouse" document contained the same children with their birth dates given exactly as in Sofi's document.

      Both Sofi and Claude were cremated.
