    • Ruben Earnest BARFIELD, a son of Susan Frances Boatright and William Leander Barfield, was born on 28 March 1916 in Emanuel County, Georgia, a twin to his brother Rufus. He was named as a son, aged 3 years and 9 months, in his parents' household in the 1920 Emanuel County census and as age 14 in his mother's household in the 1930 Emanuel County census. He also was named as a surviving son in his mother's 1953 obituary, and as a surviving brother in LeDora Barfield Britt's 1943 obituary, in James Brinson Barfield's 1967 obituary, in Lora Barfield Neal's 1984 obituary, and in William Ray Barfield's 1987 obituary. His residence was Swainsboro in 1943 and 1953, but he had moved to Pahokee, Florida by 1967, and then to Canal Point, Florida by 1987.

      Ruben married first Mary Alice Dixon on 25 December 1937 in Emanuel County. She was born on 10 June 1920 in Emanuel County, a daughter of Mary Agnes Portwood and Henry Richard Dixon.

      Ruben and Mary Alice were living with her parents outside of Twin City when the 1940 Emanuel County census was taken. The extended family was recorded as follows: Henry Dixon, answered census questions, head, age 46, married, completed 4 grades of school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County on 1 April 1935, at work on public emergency work the week of 24 March, worked 28 hours the week of 24 March, laborer for WPA, government worker, worked 24 weeks in 1939, had sources of income other than wages in 1939; Mary A. Dixon, wife, married, age 42, completed 5 grades of school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County on 1 April 1935, engaged in housework; Mary Barfield, daughter, age 19, married, completed seven grades of school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County on 1 April 1935, engaged in housework; and Ruben Barfield, son-in-law, age 24,married, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County on 1 April 1935, was at work the week of 24 March, worked 40 hours the week of 24 March, laborer for state highway, wage earner, worked 52 weeks in 1939, earned wages of $600 in 1939, had no other source of income.

      They were living in Greenville, South Carolina, with his twin brother Rufus in 1945 and were recorded there in the city directory. The listing was as follows: Ruben E. Barfield (Mary A.), machinist operator, Gaylord Container, residence 7a 9th Avenue (Judson Mills No 2).

      Mary Alice died on 6 July 1945 in Greenville, and was buried in Hawhammock Cemetery, Emanuel County. They had no children.

      He married second Mary Elizabeth Prince in Hendersonville, North Carolina, on 9 October 1945. She was born on 16 April 1924 in Gaston, North Carolina. She was an Eastern Star.

      Ruben was pastor of Missionary Baptist Church, Canal Point, Florida, where he served for 32 years before his retirement. He was a Mason.

      They had four children:

      iv. John Allan BARFIELD

      He died on 15 December 1996 in Dublin, Laurens County, Georgia, and was buried at Hawhammock Cemetery.

      Mary Elizabeth died on 25 November 2002 in Dublin and also was buried at Hawhammock Church Cemetery.
