    Notes
    • Fred Cholan BOATRIGHT, a son of Willie Corine Coleman and Frank Rhen Boatright, was born 19 August 1914 in Emanuel County, Georgia. He was named as a son, aged 6 years, in his parents? household in the 1920 Emanuel County census and as age 15 in the 1930 census. He also was named a surviving son in his father?s 1952 obituary and in his mother?s 1985 obituary. In addition, in 1943 he served as a pallbearer at the funeral of his grandfather, Matthew Brinson Boatright.

Fred graduated from Swainsboro High School in Emanuel County and moved to Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, soon after graduation. The 1936-1937 Augusta city directory recorded him as a resident of 1046 Broad Street and employed as a cutter with Southeastern Fur Company. He apparently remained in the fur business most of his life. He became a partner in Southeastern Furriers and operated the fur department for J. B. Whites Department Store for 20 years.

He married Martha Fay Hogan in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, on 6 March 1938. They were married by E. C. Sheridan, pastor of the Curtis Baptist Church in Augusta. The wedding was preceded by a number of showers for the bride. After the wedding and honeymoon, they resided at 937 Fifteenth Street in Augusta. The 1939 directory listed them at Jefferson Davis Avenue. In the 1940 and 1941 Augusta City Directories, they were still living at the Fifteenth Street address and Fred was a furrier with Southeastern Fur Company; Fay was a bookkeeper with Sou Finance Corporation.

Fay was born in Augusta on 9 June 1913, a daughter of Mattie Powell and William Henry Hogan.

Fred was a member of the Baptist faith. In his early years in Augusta, he was a member of Curtis Baptist Church ? the same church in which he was married. His involvement was such that, in one known instance, he held a prayer meeting in his home in preparation for a youth revival at Curtis Baptist Church in 1948. Then, in 1949, he served as a prayer meeting leader. He later served as a deacon for the First Baptist Church in Augusta.

Service as a juror on a grand jury and Superior Court juries was a role Fred played in performing his civic duties. On the social level, he was a Mason and served his lodge as secretary.

According to Polk?s 1955 Augusta Directory, Fred C. and Fay H. Boatwright lived at 3011 Lake Forest Drive. They were recorded in the 1980 Augusta City Directory as residing at that same address. At that time he was a salesman with J. B. White & Company.

      They had one daughter:

      i. Anzia Vivian BOATRIGHT

Fred died 25 June 1982 in Augusta and was buried in Westover Memorial Park Cemetery. In his will, he bequeathed all of his property to Fay and stated that ?I have complete confidence in my wife and know that she will provide for [Anzia].?

Fay died on 19 April 2007 in Evans, Georgia, and also was buried in Westover Memorial Park.
