    • Andrew Jackson HOBBS, a son of Mary Frances Rich and Asa H. Hobbs, was born on 3 November 1896 in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, Georgia. He was named as a son, aged 3 years, in his parents' household in the 1900 Emanuel County census and as 14 years old in the 1910 census. He also was named as a surviving son in his father's 1933 obituary and in his father's will, dated 24 June 1933. He was also co-executor of the will.

      He married Callie Cowart in Emanuel County on 5 October 1916. She was born on 22 May 1896 in Emanuel County.

      Andrew registered for the World War I draft in the 53rd GMD, Emanuel County on 5 June 1918. His draft registration card provided the following information: Andrew J. Hobbs; age 21; Route 1, Swainsboro, Georgia; born 3 November 1896; natural born citizen; born in Swainsboro; farming, employed by A. H. Hobbs of Swainsboro; dependents, wife and one child; married; signed Andrew J. Hobbs; tall, medium build, brown eyes, dark brown hair, not bald; no physical disabilities.

      In the 1920 Emanuel County census, Andrew and his family were enumerated as follows: Andrew Hobbs, head, age 23, rents, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, farmer, general farm; Kallie, wife, age 23, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; and Hillman, son age 2 years and five months, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia.6 They were living next to Andrew?s parents.

      By 1930, the family was recorded in the Emanuel County census, as follows: Andrew J. Hobbs, head, rented, lived on farm, age 33, age 26 when first married, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, farmer, turpentine and general farm, self employed, working when census was taken; Callie G., wife, homemaker, age 33, age 20 when first married, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Hillman, son, age 12, attended school, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Mary L., daughter age 9, attended school, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; and Charlene, daughter, age 5, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia.

      They owned their home, valued at $2500, that was situated on a farm outside of Swainsboro when the 1940 Emanuel County census was taken. The family was recorded as follows: Andrew Hobbs, answered census questions, head, age 43, married, completed eight grades of school, born in Georgia, lived in the same house on 1 April 1935, was at work the week of 24 March, worked 55 hours the week of 24 March, farm laborer, worked on own account, worked 50 weeks in 1939, earned no wages in 1939, had other sources of income in 1939; Callie Hobbs, wife, age 43, married, completed eight grades of school, born in Georgia, lived in the same house on 1 April 1935, engaged in housework, had no income in 1939; Hilman Hobbs, son, age 23, completed eight grades of school, born in Georgia, lived in the same house on 1 April 1935, was at work the week of 24 March, worked 40 hours the week of 24 March, meat cutter for retail grocery store, wage earner, worked 36 weeks in 1939, earned wages of $500 in 1939, had other sources of income in 1939; Charlene Hobbs, daughter, age 15, attended school, completed eight grades of school, born in Georgia, lived in the same house on 1 April 1935, student; and, Molly Hobbs, mother, age 70, widow, completed two grades of school, born in Georgia, lived in the same house on 1 April 1935. Daughter Daughter Mary Lou and husband, Lee Wheeler, were living next door.

      They had three children:

      iii. Margaret Charlene HOBBS

      Callie was included on the 1927 and 1938 membership rolls of Hawhammock Baptist Church and served as a delegate to Association meetings.

      She died on 2 June 1941, and was buried at Hawhammock Church Cemetery where she had been a member.

      Andrew died on 2 June 1951 in Swainsboro, and also was buried at Hawhammock Church Cemetery.
