    • Among the records consulted here, Walter Guy Hobbs? birth year varies from 1893 to 1895. The World War I draft card gives his birth year as 1893; his tombstone inscription at Hawhammock Baptist Church gives his birth year as 1895; the Social Security Death Index states the year as 1893; and his obituary indicates the year was 1894. The ages in the censuses also support a birth year of 1893-4. Additional research to determine with more certainty the year should include his Social Security application (not just the index), his death certificate, a family Bible or other reliable sources. As for now, the draft card is the most reliable of the sources cited and is supported by the Social Security Index.
