    • Byron Fletcher BOATRIGHT Sr., the oldest son of Clara Bunn and Daniel Douglas Boatright, was born on 20 January 1902 in Emanuel County, Georgia. He was named as a son, aged 8 years, in his parents' household in the 1910 Emanuel County census, and as aged 18 years in the 1920 Emanuel County census. He also was named as a surviving son in his mother's 1931 obituary.

      When the 1930 Emanuel County census was taken on 19 April, Byron was a boarder in the Summit home of Itha Sutton and her children -- Claude E., Annie, and Kate. All of these Sutton family members were soon to become relatives. The information provided for Byron in the census is as follows: Byron Boatright, boarder, age 28, single, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, laborer, general farm, wage earner, was working at the time of the census, was not a veteran.

      Byron married Kate Jane Sutton on 16 August 1930 in Aiken, South Carolina. She was born on 18 November 1901 in Emanuel County, daughter of Itha Jane Brinson and Algerine Sutton. She was a sister to Claude Sutton, the husband of Essie Mae Boatright, Byron's sister. She also was a sister to Byron's father's third wife, Annie Sutton Richards.

      Byron moved to Lakeland, Florida after 1931 and then to Tampa, Florida before 1940. They were recorded in the 1940 Hillsborough County census as renting a house for $10 a month at 1312 New Orleans Street. Other information provided by the census included: Byron F. Boatwright, head, age 38, married, completed nine grades of school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County, Georgia on 1 April 1935, was at work the week of 24 March, worked 77 hours the week of 24 March, taxicab driver, wage earner, worked 52 weeks in 1939, earned $728 in wages in 1939, had no other source of income in 1939; Kate Boatwright, answered census questions, age 38, married completed one year of college, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County, Georgia on 1 April 1935, engaged in housework, had no source of income in 1939; Algerine D. Boatwright, son, age 6, attended school, completed no grades of school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County, Georgia on 1 April 1935; Harvey S. Boatwright, son, age 4, born in Georgia; Itha M. Boatwright, daughter, age 1, born in Florida; and, Byron F. Boatwright Jr., son, age 4 months, born in Florida.

      They also were recorded in the 1945 Florida state census in Hillsborough County as follows: Byron F. Boatwright, 105 Court Drive, inside city limits, age 43, born in Georgia, 9th grade education, cab driver: Kate Boatwright, age 43, born in Georgia, college education, housewife; Algerine Boatwright, age 12, born in Georgia, 4th grade, student; Harvey S. Boatwright, age 10, born in Georgia, 3rd grade, student; Itha M. Boatwright, age 6, born in Florida, 1st grade, student; Byron F. Boatwrigt Jr., age 5, born in Florida; Oma K. Boatwright, age 3, born in Florida.
