    • Ebb Loyd DURDEN (Elmira Josephine4, Daniel D.3, Reubin2, Daniel1), a son of Elmira Josephine Boatright and Ebenezer P. Durden, was born on 12 September 1886 in Emanuel County, Georgia. He was named as a son, aged 13 years, in his parents' household in the 1900 Emanuel County, Georgia census. He also was named as a surviving son in his father's 1943 obituary and in his mother's 1949 obituary. In addition, he was named as a surviving brother in Willie O. Durden's 1956 obituary, Daniel Homer Durden Sr.'s 1963 obituary, and Lillie Durden Brown's 1964 obituary.

      He married Mabel Weatherford on 13 January 1906 in Bulloch County, Georgia. She was born on 12 August 1886 in Aiken County, South Carolina, a daughter of Mary and James Weatherford.

      At the time of the 1910 Bulloch County census, Loyd and family were recorded in the census as follows: Loyd Durden, age 21, married once, married three years, born in Georgia, farmer, could read and write; May Belle, wife, age 21, married once, mother of one child, born in Georgia, could read and write; and Cleo, daughter, age 2, born in Georgia. He lived close to his parents.

      Loyd moved to Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, by 1916 when he was listed in the Savannah city directory as: Lloyd E. Durden, motorman for Savannah Electric Co., resident 121 W. Duffy Street. The 1917 city directory provided the same information.

      He registered for the World War I draft in Savannah on 5 June 1917. His draft registration card provided the following information: Ebb Lloyd Durden; age 30; home address: 121 West Duffy Street, Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia; born on 12 September 1886; natural born citizen, born near Graymont, Emanuel County, Georgia; occupation: Street Car Motorman; employer: Savannah Electric Co. at Savannah; dependents wife and two children; married; signed E. L. Durden; physical description: tall, medium build, brown eyes, brown hair, not bald, and no physical disabilities.

      By 1919, Loyd was listed in the city directory as; Lloyd Durden (Mabel), carpenter for Terry's, householder 401 W. Duffy Street. Although Loyd and family could not be located in the 1920 census, he was listed, with Mable, in the 1921 through 1923 Savannah city directories as householders at 401 W. Duffy Street. He was employed as a jitney driver in 1921 and as a carpenter in 1922 and 1923.

      Lloyd and family were recorded in Chicago during the 1930 Cook County, Illinois census. They lived at 3424 Elaine Place Apartments and paid $50 a month rent. The individual information provided by the census included: Loyd Durden, head, rented home, $50 rental, male, white, age 43, married first at age 19, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, carpenter, building industry, wage earner, was employed, was not a veteran; Mable Durden, wife, keeps house, age 43, married, age 43, could read and write, married first at age 19, born in South Carolina, parents born in South Carolina; and, Ulma,Durden, daughter, age 19, single, could read and write, born in Georgia, father born in Georgia, mother born in South Carolina, clerical worker, laundry, wage earner, was employed.

      According to his father's obituary, Loyd was a resident of Beaufort, South Carolina, in 1943.

      By 1952, Loyd and Mabel had returned to Savannah and were listed in the Savannah city directory as householders at 1610 3rd Street. Loyd still was employed as a carpenter. In the 1954 and 1955 city directories, they were householders at 1610 Stratford Street and Loyd's occupation was carpenter

      They had two daughters:

      685 ii. Ulma L. DURDEN

      Mabel died on 9 November 1955 in Savannah and was buried at Lake Church Cemetery in Candler County.

      Loyd married second Anna Belle Parish Jones. Anna was the first wife of John Groover Jones, who also was a descendant of Daniel Boatright. She was born in Bulloch County, Georgia, on 25 January 1886.

      The 1960 Savannah city directory listed them at Loyd's old address.

      They retired to Metter, Candler County, by 1963. He was a contractor and builder in Metter and a deacon of Lake Primitive Baptist Church.

      He published his will on 20 September 1962 and named his heirs as: his wife, Anna J. Durden; daughter, Cleo D. Alten, wife of Boyd Alten; and, Ulma D. Bultinck, wife of Charles Bultinck.

      Loyd died in Metter on 3 September 1969 and was buried in Lake Cemetery beside Mabel.

      Anna Belle died on 23 October 1973 in Savannah, Chatham County, and also was buried in Lake Cemetery.
