She married Ben H. Neal in Emanuel County on 29 April 1906. He was born in Emanuel County on 25 September 1882, a son of Sara Turner and James Albert Neal.

After Gussie's death, Ben married Lena Brantley Davis on 2 November 1919 in Johnson County, Georgia. She was born on 19 July 1893 in Georgia, possibly Johnson County, a daughter of Sophia E. and James F. Brantley. She had children by a previous marriage.

All of Gussie's and Ben's children had moved out of the house at the time of the 1940 Emanuel County census, as had Lena?s children by her first husband, but there still was a full house with Ben and Lena. They were recorded in the census as living in the 1560th GMD in their own farm house, which was valued at $600 and it was the same house they lived in on 1 April 1935. The census, in part, recorded the following information provided by Lena: Ben H.
