    • Bertie Naomi BOATRIGHT (Stephen Thomas3, Reubin2, Daniel1), a daughter of Dora Logue and Stephen Thomas Boatright, was born on 13 May 1904 in Emanuel County, Georgia. She was named as a daughter, aged 5 years, in her parents' household in the 1910 Emanuel County census, and as aged 15 years in the 1920 census. She also was listed as a surviving daughter in her mother's 1936 obituary and in her father's 1950 obituary. In addition, she was named as a surviving sister in the obituaries of: Ethel Boatright Mondy, 1947; Frances Boatright Barfield, 1953; Mathew Lewis Boatright, 1953; Ernest Stephen Boatright, 1958; Caleb Bruce Boatright, 1968; Sallie Boatright Fortner, 1977, and Elizabeth Boatright Green, 1987.

      She married John Charlie Logue Sr. on 28 August 192-. He was born in Jefferson County, Georgia, on 16 May 1893, a son of Victoria and Jerry Logue.

      John registered for the World War I draft in the 1201st GMD, Johnson County on 5 June 1917. His draft registration card provided the following information: John Charlie Logue; age 24; post office address: Wrightsville, Johnson County, Georgia; born 16 May 1893; natural born citizen; born in Jefferson County, Georgia; occupation: farmer at Wrightsville, employed by Jerry Logue; single; signed John Charlie Logue; physical description: medium height, medium build, blue eyes, light hair, not bald; no physical disabilities.

      They were recorded in the 1930 Emanuel County census as follows: Charlie Logue, head, rented home at $9 rental, age 40, married first at age 25, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, commercial traveler, dry goods, self-employed, was working at time of the census, was not a veteran; and, Bertie, wife, age 30, age 15 when first married, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia.

      Bertie was a resident of Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia by 1935, and it became her permanent home. The 1935, 1937, 1938, and 1939 city directories listed J. Charles and Bertie B. Logue, with two children under 16, as residing at 718 Moore Avenue. Charlie's occupation was given as an attendant at the US Veterans Administration Facility.

      They rented a house at 716 Moore Avenue, $15 a month, in Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. They were there when the 1940 Richmond County census was taken. The census provided the following details on the family: J. Charles Logue, head, age 46, married, completed six grades of school, born in Georgia, lived in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, Georgia, on 1 April 1935, was at work the week of 24 March, worked 44 hours the week of 24 March, attendant at government hospital, government worker, worked 52 weeks in 1939, earned $1260 in wages in 1939, had no other source of income in 1939; Bertie Logue, answered census questions, wife, age 35, married, completed four grades of high school, born in Georgia, lived in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, Georgia, on 1 April 1935, engaged in housework, had no source of income in 1939; Grace Logue, daughter, age 9, attended school, completed three grades of school, born in Georgia, lived in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, Georgia, on 1 April 1935; and, Charles Logue, son, age 8, attended school, completed one grade of school, born in Georgia, lived in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, Georgia, on 1 April 1935.

      They had two children:

      ii. Grace LOGUE, d. 5 August 1949 in
      Augusta; buried Hillcrest

      The 1942 Augusta city directory listed Bertie as a seamstress at Byrd's Antiques and she was a householder at 1489 Harper Street. John C. Logue still was employed as a hospital attendant for Veterans's Administration, but his residence was listed as 724 Moore Avenue.

      In 1945, the city directory listed Mrs. Bertie N. Logue, saleswoman at Belk-Luke, householder 1489 Harper Street and John C. Logue (Bertie N.) hospital attendant for Veterans's Administration, 1489 Harper Street. In 1946, Bertie and John were householders at 1453 Harper Street and John's occupation was listed as salesman. In 1947, they were householders at 223 Greene Street and John was a salesman for Hillcrest Memorial Park.

      John died in Augusta on 12 December 1948. Seven months later, 5 Augusta 1949, their daughter Grace died. They were buried beside each other in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta.

      After John's death, Bertie worked as a buyer and seller of ladies lingerie at Belk's and Ruben's department stores in Augusta. She resided at various addresses: 1487 Harper Street, 1949-1953; 1487 Harper Street, 1956-1957; and 2921 Courtney Road, 1959-1960.

      She also was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.

      Bertie maintained her "home ties" to Emanuel County. One visit was recorded when she attended the 66th birthday party of Gladys Boatright, her sister-in-law, in 1969.

      Bertie died on 16 September 1987 in Augusta, and was buried in Hillcrest Memorial Park next to her husband and daughter.
