    Notes
    • Caleb Bruce BOATRIGHT (Stephen Thomas3, Reubin2, Daniel1), a son of Dora Logue and Stephen Thomas Boatright, was born on 10 February 1887 in Emanuel County, Georgia. He was named as a son, aged 13 years, in his parents' household in the 1900 Emanuel County census, as aged 23 years in the 1910 census, and as aged 33 years in the 1920 census. He also was listed as a surviving son in his mother's 1936 obituary and in his father's 1950 obituary. In addition, he was listed as a surviving brother in Ethel Boatright Mondy's 1947 obituary, Frances Boatright Barfield's 1953 obituary, Mathew Lewis Boatright's 1953 obituary, and Ernest Stephen Boatright's 1958 obituary.

Bruce registered for the World War I draft on 5 June 1917 in the 1560th GMD, Emanuel County. His draft registration card provided the following information: Caleb Boatright; age 30; post office address: Rt. 1, Swainsboro, Georgia; born 18th? February 1887; natural born citizen; born in Emanuel County; occupation: farming, employed by M. L. Boatright, Swainsboro; single; signed Caleb B. Boatright; physical description: medium height, medium build, green eyes, light hair, not bald; no physical disabilities.10 He entered service on 16 July 1918 at Fort Screven, Georgia. He served in 1st Co., C.A.C. Coast Artillery and was discharged 11 December 1918 at Fort Screven.

He married Mattie Elma Flanders on Sunday, 16 October 1927, in a small wedding ceremony at Elma's parents' home in Johnson County, Georgia. She was born on 17 October 1904 in Johnson County, the daughter of Elizabeth Deliah Stapelton and Benjamin Young Flanders.

They lived with Caleb's parents after their marriage and were recorded in that household in the 1930 Emanuel County census as follows: Bruce, son, age 43, age 41 when first married, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, farmer, general farm, self-employed, was working at time of the census, was a veteran of World War I; Elma, daughter-in-law, age 25, age 23 when first married, could read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; and, Joyce, granddaughter, age 11 months, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia.

Apparently Bruce moved to Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia, about 1937. That year the Augusta city directory listed Caleb as a resident of 562 Broad Street and his occupation as a shipping clerk at Merchants Baking Company.

His move to Augusta was not permanent at that time and he returned to Emanuel County by 1940. When the 1940 Emanuel County census was taken, Caleb and family were living on a farm in a rented house on which they paid $7 monthly rental. The census provided the following details: C. B. Boatright, head, age 53, married, completed three years of high school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County on 1 April 1935, was not working the week of 24 March, unable to work, had no source of income in 1939; Elma Boatright, wife, age 35, married, completed seven grades of school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County on 1 April 1935, was at work the week of 24 March, worked 50 hours the week of 24 March, farmer, worked on own account, worked 52 weeks in 1939, had no wages in 1939, had other sources of income in 1939; Joyce Boatright, daughter, age 11, attended school, completed seven grades of school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County on 1 April 1935; and, Oris Boatright, daughter, age 6, attended school, completed one grade of school, born in Georgia, lived on a farm in rural Emanuel County on 1 April 1935.

At the April 1941 meeting of Hawhammock Church "Bro Bruce Boatwright was given the right hand [of] fellowship and was united with the church." He became an active member and was chosen as a delegate to association meetings.

At sometime between 1950 and 1953, they moved once again from Emanuel County to Augusta. They were listed in the 1955 through 1960 Augusta city directories. They apparently remained permanent residents because a 1977 social note in the Swainsboro newspaper noted their visit from Augusta to see relatives in Emanuel County.

Bruce and Elma had two daughters:

      i. Betty Joyce BOATRIGHT
      ii. Peggy Oris BOATRIGHT

Caleb died in Richmond County on 25 August 1968 and was buried at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Elma still resided in Augusta after Caleb's death. She was recorded in the 1980 Augusta City Directory as residing at 2149 Crosley Street; she was retired.

Elma died on 21 November 1996 in Augusta and was buried at Hillcrest Memorial Park beside her husband.
