    Notes
    • Daniel D. BOATRIGHT, son of Lacy Bishop and Reubin Boatright, was born Friday, 28 September 1827 in Emanuel County, Georgia.

He married Eady, daughter of Needham Bryant, on 8 November 1849 in Emanuel County. The marriage was performed by Alexander Atkinson, JP.

Eady was born Wednesday, 31 December 1834 in Emanuel County.

In 1850, the family was listed in the Emanuel County census as follows: Daniel D. Boatright, age 22, farmer, $240 value of real estate, born in Georgia; Eady, age 16, born in Georgia; married within the year. They were living next to Needham and Society Bryant, Eady?s parents.

Daniel paid 59.7 cents for 1851 taxes for one poll and 304 acres of land in the 59th district of Emanuel County. The land was located on Fountain Branch, adjoining lands of Overstreet, on land originally granted to Bryant.

Daniel was the Tax Collector in Emanuel County in 1854. This position was noted in The Southern Recorder.

The 11 September 1855 issue of The Southern Recorder included notice of an Emanuel County Sheriff?s Sale on Daniel?s property. The sale was to be held at the Courthouse on the first Tuesday of November 1855. The notice stated:
... will be sold one tract of land containing
244 acres, more or less, and also 56 acres,
more or less, in Emanuel County, adjoining
lands of John Overstreet and Needham Bryant,
and also Daniel D. Boatright?s interest
in two other pieces in Early County,
one-fifth of five hundred acres, one in
the 11th District and the other in the 26th
District of Early county; and also 22 head
of stock cattle, and also one sorrel mare:
all levied upon as the property of Daniel D.
Boatright to satisfy one fi fa issued in
the Interior Court of Emanuel county, in
favor of the State vs. Daniel D. Boatright

      September 11, 1855

In 1857 and 1858, Daniel was deputy sheriff in Emanuel County as evidenced by several Sheriff Sales legal notices in the The Federal Union. Most of the notices were notices of sales for debt on real estate, but there also were sales on livestock, as well as at least one slave.

By the time of the 1860 census, the family was recorded as follows: D. D. Boutright, age 33, farmer, $600 real estate, $400 personal estate, born in Georgia; Eady, age 26, born in Georgia; Mary A., age 9, born in Georgia, attended school within year; Nancy S., age 4, born in Georgia; and Elmira J., age 6 months, born in Georgia.

Daniel enlisted as a Private in Co. G, 54th Regiment Georgia Infantry on Sunday, 6 May 1862 at Savannah by Capt. Green for a period of three years. He was transferred to Co. C on Saturday, 1 September 1862 by Special Order No. 6. He appears on a receipt roll for clothing on 28 April 1864 as a Corporal.7 He was wounded at Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia June 15, 1864.

As was true with many of the Boatright families in the 1800s, Daniel and Eady were members of the Primitive Baptist Church. The Old Canoochee Baptist Church records report that on 2 December 1865 Daniel was appointed to a committee to draw up the plans for a new church and then on Saturday, 1 September 1866, the ?baptist church of Christ in conference on motion Recd ... D. D. Boatwright and Eady Boatwright by Experence of grace.? D. D. was chosen as an alternate delegate to the association conference on 3 August 1867, 2 August 1868, and 3 August 1872. He also was appointed on 30 November 1867 and on 4 September 1869 to serve on committees to cite other members for wrongdoing; on 1 June 1872 and 28 February 1874 to visit with members; and on 5 December 1874 he was appointed to serve on the Standing Committee. On Saturday, 4 July 1874 Daniel was elected deacon.

Daniel was included on the 1867 returns of qualified voters under the reconstruction act. The return shows that he took the oath of allegiance and registered to vote on 8 July 1867 in the 59th precinct of Emanuel County. On the same day he took the oath ?to support the Constitution and obey the laws of the United States, and will to the best of my ability encourage others to do so.?

In the 1870 Emanuel County census, the family included: D. D. Boatright, age 43, farmer, born in Georgia, $500 real estate, $200 personal estate; Eda, age 38, born in Georgia; Nancy S., age 14, born in Georgia, attended school within year; Josephine A., age 10, born in Georgia, attended school within year; Wm. E., age 2, born in Georgia; and Eliza M. Wallace, age 7, born in Georgia.

By 1880, the census included: Daniel D. Boatwright, head, age 52, farmer, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Eady, wife, age 47, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Willie E., son, age 12, works on farm, attended school with in year, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Lillie L., daughter, age 6, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia; Eliza M. Wallace, niece, age 18, parents born in Georgia. Next door was Needham Bryant Sr., Eady?s father.

Daniel and Eady had the following children:

      i. Mary A. BOATRIGHT
      ii. Nancy S. BOATRIGHT
      iii. Elmira Josephine BOATRIGHT
      iv. William E. BOATRIGHT
      v. Lillie L. BOATRIGHT

Daniel died Friday, 21 December 1884 and was buried in the cemetery at Old Canoochee Church where he had been a member. Eady was left with two minor children, William and Lillie, to rear by herself and the court set aside a portion of Daniel?s estate for a year?s support.

At the time of the 1910 census, Eady was included in the household of Bessie R. Jones as follows: Eady Boatright, companion, age 60, widow, mother of five children of whom two were living, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia, could read and write.

By 1920 Eady was living with her daughter Josephine in Chatham County and was recorded in the 1920 Chatham County census in their household, as follows: Annie Boatright, mother, age 91, widow, cannot read and write, born in Georgia, parents born in Georgia.

Eady died Wednesday, 8 September 1920 and was buried in Old Canoochee Church Cemetery beside Daniel. Her tombstone inscription reads ?Wife of D. D. Boatright.?
